There is more than one reason why a standard television and an HDTV are different, but there are ways to improve the quality of the standard TV programming pictures.

High definition television is talked about all the time and what makes this television different than the old standard television many people wonder. Unless, they have educated themselves about the difference between these televisions and there are several differences.

The standard television is not capable of projecting a picture the same as an HDTV, this is because the resolution in pixels is limited to 480 lines and with a high definition television the resolution in pixels can be 720p, 1080i or 1080p. This is a large difference and this is one of the reasons why the picture quality is so different between a high definition television and a standard television.

Another difference is the transmission of the signal, with the standard television that does not have a receiver box the signal is coming to the television in analog, that means that there can also be interference, such as snow, ghosting and voice distortion. The voice is also transmitted separately from the analog transmission.

When the transmission is in a digital TV signal that means that it is transmitted with a larger amount of bandwidth, the program and the voice are transmitted together making for a clear picture and voice on an HD television. It also means there is little chance of having distortion in the transmission of programming.

One of the best ways to receive this type of clear and crisp transmission is to subscribe to satellite TV, this means having a satellite dish which catches the transmission and delivers it to the high def television receiver. To have satellite TV means having a satellite network provider like Dish Network. The satellite dish that is used will be like having an HDTV antenna that receives the signal and sends it to the HDTV receiver.

There are ways to upgrade the standard television and this is with a provider like Dish Network satellite service, the receiver that transmits the signal that it receives from the satellite dish will be transmitted in digital television. This will not make the standard television an HDTV, but it will give it the quality of digital television. That will end snow, distortion in voice and ghosts in the programming.

When it comes down to it digital satellite TV has advantages whether the television being used is a standard TV or an HDTV because of the difference in transmission and for high def viewers there are more channels and programs transmitted in HD with a provider like Dish TV.

In the end dtv is the choice that many people find best for viewing programs and is a large step above the rabbit ear antenna. Digital satellite TV will never need the antenna adjusted and it will not have snow or other distortions that occur when using a house antenna. Even the standard television provides better viewing when using satellite TV and a satellite TV receiver because of the digital satellite TV transmission, added to that is the amount of channels that can be viewed.
