The Mediterranean garden is a special garden; it is one that is comforting and elegant all in one and these are the gardens seen in France, Italy and Spain. This means they have the look of the European garden that while it takes less care has more than flowers in it, this is a garden with flowers, plants, rocks, water and statues.
The plants and flowers found in this type of garden are special, because they include herbs that are aromatic and useful, such as lavender, which is one of the popular plants in the Mediterranean gardens. These gardens also have herbs like sage, thyme and basil planted in them that make the garden a place of wonderful smells and lush green leaves.
The Mediterranean garden also has plants that are in the vegetable family like tomatoes, peppers and even string beans that add color and depth to the garden. These are also vegetables that add an extra dish to the table that is fresh and delicious, or the fresh herbs used while cooking to lend a fragrant smell and delicious taste.
The Mediterranean garden is a garden that needs no special location, it can be placed near a patio or further back in a yard were walking in it or sitting on a bench of stone or cement will be a relaxing treat. This is a garden that while useful is also a serene place to visit and the more trees and bushes surrounding it makes this garden all the more magical as a secret get away. In the European countries these gardens are located have trees of bay and citrus and these of course can be used in the Mediterranean garden far from Europe, where boxwoods can be added to the list. Along with other plants and colorful flowers that will not only give the garden color, but they will also be a relaxing site when sitting in the garden or outside.
The use of things like terracotta pots and water fountains are a welcome addition to this garden that will only add an exquisite look to this type of garden. The paths through these gardens are of gravel with hidden seats for a shaded escape. All of these lend an air of romance and magic to the garden transforming it from a regular garden into one found on the yards in these European countries that are known for romance and magic.
This is also the type of garden that will return season after season only getting better with little care and the replanting minimal. The replanting in most Mediterranean gardens the potted plants, the vegetables and the herbs, while the trees and bushes will return larger and fuller each year.
This is also a garden, which from the inside or the outside can be a real presentation of plants and foliage year round, even when the flowers in the garden are not in bloom. It is also a presentation of nature coming alive for outdoor functions; this is one garden that always shows its best.
