Sportfishing is different than any other type of fishing, it is one that is not a hobby to relax and take it easy, it is one that will get the blood moving with the amount of fast paced excitement. Reeling in a fish that weights as much or more than a person has a way of making this a much different type of fishing than relaxing in the boat waiting for a large mouth bass.

There are different types of fishing, there is fresh water fishing for trout and bass, there is ice fishing for anglers that live in colder climates and then there is sportfishing and this is where excitement comes alive.

Other types of fishing have a thrill when there is a fish on the line and during fishing season most of these fish like trout must be measured to ensure they are large enough to keep. That is never a problem with sport fishing; the length for a trout in most places is 12 inches, in order for it to be large enough to keep. Ocean fishing is quite different, there is no worry about getting a 12 inch Marlin on the line and that is why, this is where fishing comes alive. Fighting a 12 inch fish is exciting just knowing you have a fish on the line, but having a fish on the line that is the size of a human is quite different reeling them in.

The excitement begins when the Marlin, Sailfish, Tuna or other large fish is on the line, this is when the sport fishing angler gets to use all of the skill and experience they have to reel it into the boat without the line breaking. Fighting these large fish is quite different from the trout or bass, while it takes skill to reel in any fish without breaking the line when it is a fish weighting hundreds of pounds it is not a relaxing day of fishing. Going home with a good catch to have for dinner is not what the sport fisherman has in mind, this is a person that likes high energy hobbies and wants that picture on the dock with his catch. Because this is a high energy type of fishing and is one done deep in the ocean, it is often known as a team sport.  That means a larger boat and longer trips, which are filled with fishing, fishing stories and camaraderie of teammates.  Being part of a sportfishing team makes things more exciting, even when it's not you fighting a battle with the big one it's a teammate and it is just as exciting watching them reeling in this large fish that is fighting every turn of the reel.

This is a hobby that even when an angler is not on water they have the opportunity to read about their sports a web sites where they can get all the latest information about the torments and the newest equipment.  There are magazines for this type of fishing and they have their teammates to talk about ocean fishing ocean fishing.

One of the other exciting things about sportfishing is the torments, it is not just exciting fishing, it is bringing the largest Marlin or what ever the fish of the torment is and that means the team wins the prize.  That's excitement from a hobby and it won't be found in many other types of fishing.
